Certus was founded to solve a real problem: in a world where AI can generate polished professional work in seconds, how do you prove yours is human? We're building the infrastructure for that proof.
Our Story
The idea for Certus came from a real problem. In 2023, our co-founder Sarah Chen was working as a compliance officer at a law firm when a client demanded proof that their legal brief was written by human attorneys, not AI. The firm had no way to verify this — and no tools existed to help.
She partnered with Marcus Webb, a software engineer specialising in behavioural analytics, to build a solution. They realised that by analysing workflow patterns — keystroke dynamics, editing behaviour, research paths — they could create a verifiable record of human contribution without capturing sensitive content.
Certus is now in private beta, working with our first users to validate the product and refine the certificate format. We're early, intentionally. We'd rather get it right for a small number of users than scale something that doesn't work.
